SERI KEMBANGAN, March 2 — There is no need for parents, teachers or students to panic over a shooting incident that took place in front of the school, SK Sri Serdang Parent Teacher Association chairman Khalid Lambak said today.

In the incident which happened at the school bus stop yesterday afternoon, one parent was killed while another was injured.

Khalid said the school is operating as usual as both the students and teachers have been assured that the matter is being handled by the police.

"School attendance is normal today and the PTA committee, as well as the school administration, have told everybody not to panic.”

He added that the incident was witnessed by some parents and teachers. "I urge them to stay strong for the sake of the students. We must do all we can to ensure a safe space for our students.”

Everything looked calm at the school this morning with parents dropping off their children at the school gate as usual with a school guard managing traffic.

Police patrols were also seen several times in the morning.

Khalid who has been on the school PTA committee for 16 years said parents are happy with the level of protection provided by the police.

"The police arrived at the scene in less than five minutes after the shooting incident,” he said.

Based on eyewitness accounts, Khalid said the shooting seemed well orchestrated rather than random.

"The assailants were wearing all black, gloves and helmets. The community has never experienced such an extreme crime before,” he said.

However, Khalid said a closed circuit television system (CCTV) would dramatically increase school safety.

"We requested a CCTV from the Subang Jaya Municipal Council but got rejected due to budget restraints.

"However, we hope MBPJ would reconsider our request and we implore the Education Ministry to install CCTV inside the school premises as well for the sake of the students,” he said.
