GEORGE TOWN, March 1 — An engineering consultant company director was today remanded for five days by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) over investigations into a RM3 million graft case.
The 50-year-old was arrested at 1pm yesterday after he went to have his statement recorded at the state MACC headquarters here.
He was alleged to have conspired with an individual from a government-owned real estate company to propose his company as a consultant for several projects worth RM3 million.
According to sources, the "other individual” from the company owned by the Finance Minister Incorporated also held a high position in the engineering firm.
They were alleged to have conspired for several projects sometime between 2005 and 2016.
MACC deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Ghazali Muhamad Nadzri said they are still looking for the individual from the government owned company.
This arrest was believed to be linked to a MACC report lodged by Penang Chief Minister’s strategic adviser Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail last year.
Saifuddin had alleged "conflict of interest” in government-owned JKP Sdn Bhd due to the posts held by its top chief executive in an engineering consultant company.
He alleged that the engineering consultant company had received projects worth over RM3 million from JKP between December 12, 2006 and July 21, 2017.
