PUTRAJAYA, March 1 ― The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified the second individual suspected of receiving a sum of money to close the case on the mega undersea tunnel project costing RM6.3 billion in Penang.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki when met by reporters said the individual was not an Umno MP (Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim).

Asked if Umno politicians would be called to assist investigation in the case, Azam when met after launching the Women’s Anti-Corruption Movement (GWAR) here today, said: It depends on the investigation.   

Earlier, an Umno politician denied allegations made against him on the undersea tunnel project in Penang and was prepared to be investigated by MACC.

Yesterday, a businessman was remanded for six days believed to have received bribes amounting to RM19 million to close the case on the RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel project in Penang. 

The businessman was believed to have received the money from the project main construction company after saying he was able to settle the investigation conducted by MACC. ― Bernama
