TAPAH, Feb 28 — A 43-year-old man died while his son suffered injuries after the man failed to overtake another trailer early this morning.
District police chief Superintendent Som Sak Din Keliaw said, "As he was trying to overtake the trailer, the victim lost control of his vehicle and he crashed onto the trailer in front. This resulted in the iron rod piercing him.”
He said police have detained the driver of the other trailer to assist in investigations.
"Initial investigations showed the 1.05am incident at Km315.6 southbound of the North South Expressway near here was due to the victim’s failure to overtake another trailer. Both trailers were ferrying iron rods," he said.
The victim identified as T. Gopinath from Kulim Kedah, died on the spot.
"We have arrested the 27-year-old driver of the other trailer to assist in investigations where we took his urine samples," said Som Sak, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) (A) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Gopinath's remains had been sent to Tapah Hospital for post-mortem.
