PETALING JAYA, Feb 26 — The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) will not pursue action against the organisers of the Klang City International Marathon, even as ultra-distance runner Evelyn Ang is on the verge of death following a crash from the event.

South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said the investigations were ordered closed by the department chief of the General Crimes and Public Order Unit on the directive of the AGC’s prosecution division on February 12.

"The order was handed down by Attorney General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali with the reason being that Section 36(1) of the Sports Development Act 1997 was not an accusable offence,” he said.

Shamsul said Apandi held that the offence was not criminally prosecutable and consequently did not merit further action.

On December 12, the Sports Commissioner of Malaysia had lodged a report against the organisers of KCIM, Earth Runners International Group Sdn. Bhd, for failure to seek a licence to organise the sporting event.

A driver hit Ang and two other runners at the event where several runners complained about the alleged lack of safety precautions.

Ang suffered a fractured skull and brain haemorrhage following the impact, and has not regained consciousness since.

On Feb 20, Teoh Thiam Lim, 27, was charged in the Klang magistrate's court for reckless driving stemming from the Dec 10 incident when he allegedly ran over Ang and two others at the marathon.
