KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23, —Barisan Nasional (BN) will be using "fake news” and unsubstantiated corruption claims to win the next general elections, Lim Kit Siang has claimed.

The DAP parliamentary leader said the string of recent falsely reported incidents on social media where Pakatan Harapan politicians were portrayed in a bad light was proof of this.

He was referring to a recent photoshopped picture of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) vice-president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and Amanah President Mohamad Sabu eating at an event where pork was served on their table.

The picture came accompanies with the caption "Because they want Chinese votes, they would even eat pork. #Vote PAS.”

"This is fake news, as the suckling pig had been photoshopped, and this could be easily proven when compared to the original photograph,” Lim said in a statement.

Another example, he said was when Selangor DAP leader Young Syefura Othman was accused of partaking in a Chinese festivity to chop up a suckling pig via a photoshopped picture online.  

"She was not in the photograph or event at all.

"It was a PKR event and those in the photograph were the Selangor PKR State Exco Elizabeth Wong, PKR State Assemblywoman Chua Yee Ling and PKR Selayang Councillor Fok Wai Mun,” Lim said while adding that Syefura was defamed and the online posting had even mistakenly identified Fok as her husband.

Lim also accused Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong of undermining public confidence in DAP by continuously scrutinising the Penang undersea tunnel project.

Such campaign of lies, fake news and false information must be condemned without reservation, said Lim.

Lim also claimed that the Malaysian-Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) was being used to tarnish the image of Pakatan Harapan.
