KOTA KINABALU, Feb 20 — Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tayoma City, Japan to implement renewable energy projects in the state.

The MoU was inked by DBKK Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai representing DBKK while Masashi Mori, Mayor of the Tayoma City  for Tayoma City.

Speaking at the ceremony, Yeo said the MoU aimed to promote Renewable Energy and Agricultural Tecniques and Technologies programme through a friendly futuristic city project in the region.

"The scope of this project includes conducting research in mini hydro, solar and wind turbine,” said Yeo.

Yeo said the sustainable  project initiated by Masahi was an opportunity for the state to learn new technologies that could benefit Kota Kinabalu citizens and the community as a whole.

"Energy nowadays is very important concept. In years to come, the three problems that we will face are habitation through settlement, food and water. So, this international cooperation will actually enhance the sustainability of renewal resources,” he said.

Yeo  added that Toyoma City is one of the cities chosen by the World Bank to encourage other cities in using mini hydroelectric, solar and wind turbine.  — Bernama
