KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 — Ten non-governmental organisations (NGOs) yesterday lodged police reports against Wee Meng Chee or Namewee over his controversial video Like A Dog which has gone viral on the social media recently.

The NGOs include Pertubuhan  Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah (MJMM), Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Majlis Ayahanda Malaysia (PERMAS), Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (IRIMM), Gerakan Memartabatkan Pejuang Negara (GMPN), Kipidap and Pertubuhan Maqasid Syariah Malaysia.

President of MJMM Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah who represented the NGOs said the police reports were lodged as the video had angered Muslims.

"We urge the relevant authorities, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Foreign Ministry to take stern action against  Namawee so that he will not do it again.

"We respect their culture and have no objection  if they want to make a video recording, but do not produce one which is obscene and includes a mosque in the background,” he said to reporters after lodging the report at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters here yesterday.

Also present were IRIMM president Amir Amsa Alla Picthay,  GMPN president Major (R) Razali Zakaria, and advisor of Pertubuhan Maqasid Syariah Malaysia, Prof Dr Zahlan Man.

According to Razali, the rap singer should surrender himself to the police to help in the investigations.

"An investigation paper has been opened, so if he respects Malaysia’s constitution, he should surrender himself immediately,” he said.

Last week, in conjunction with Chinese New Year, Namawee uploaded a video titled  Like A Dog in which several people wore dog masks and performed dance moves which were allegedly obscene in the vicinity of Bangunan Perdana Putra where the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya is located.

Yesterday, the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said police had opened an investigation paper on Namewee in connection to the video and the case was being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

He said police will be working with the MCMC on the investigations. — Bernama
