KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 — Consumers in Selangor would no longer need to pay 20 sen for each single-use plastic bag if Barisan Nasional recaptures the state in the general election, Tan Sri Noh Omar said.

The Selangor BN chairman said the policy only troubled the public, and questioned how the collected funds were being currently used.

"Purchasers are forced to pay 20 sen to get a plastic bag, but the people must be aware and ask where these monies collected went to,” the federal mnister was quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia.

In a bid to cultivate an eco-friendly state, the Selangor government imposed a 20 sen rule for those who wanted to buy a plastic bag beginning 2017.

The state also barred vendors from using polystyrene foam boxes to pack food.

Kuala Lumpur also introduced a similar ban on plastic bags and poly-foam last September.
