PETALING JAYA, Feb 6 — The man who yesterday brought a woman's body to the Damansara police station and admitted to her murder has been remanded for seven days starting today.

The 37-year-old suspect, clad in orange police lockup uniform, arrived at the Petaling Jaya Court Complex around 11.20am, and was escorted to the remand room with other detainees.

PJ magistrates court registrar Siti Mazrah Mohamad later granted the police's application to detain the man until Feb 12.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din confirmed the successful remand application, adding the suspect would be held at the Damansara lockup.

Yesterday, the man drove to the police station with the dead body of his colleague, 35-year-old D. Tharani, slumped in the front passenger seat of her white Honda City.

He claimed she was his lover and confessed to killing her in the car park of a shopping complex in Kota Damansara.

Police found Tharani with an apparent stab wound to her neck, and recovered what they believe to be the murder weapon from inside the car.

Childhood friends of the deceased, who were present at the courthouse, told Malay Mail that Tharani could not have known the suspect for more than two months.

"She had just started this new job a couple of months ago, and we have no idea who is the suspect,” said a friend who asked to identified only as Puva, 35.

"I was not aware if she had a boyfriend; as I remember, she prioritised her family more than anything,” he said.

Puva said he last heard from the victim about a week ago, when she invited him to hang out.

"I wished I had joined her for the few drinks after work, not knowing that was my last chance to meet her alive,” he said.

Another friend present in court, identified as John, 35, said he had last heard from Tharani about a month ago.

"We all met during a primary school reunion party, and nothing seemed out of place,” he said.

Both of them said they were shocked to learn of her murder.

"We could not accept the truth when we found out, not knowing the real story. Now we are interested in getting to the bottom of this to find out what happened,” said Puva.
