IPOH, Feb 5 — Police today arrested a student and his alleged accomplice here for possessing a sack of ketum leaves weighing 1kg that was found in the car that they were travelling in.
Perak Tengah district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the duo were stopped at a road block at Km29 of the Ipoh-Lumut Highway at 2.30am.
"The students appeared to be high on drugs and upon checking the vehicle we found the ketum leaves hidden in the car boot,” he said in a WhatsApp message.
Both suspects, aged 23 and 20, tested positive for amphetamines.
Initial investigations suggested that the student had planned to process the leaves and sell ketum juice to his college mates.
The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
