Number of flood victims drops in Sarawak

KUCHING, Feb 5 — The number of flood victims in Sarawak has declined to 2,382 from 662 families as of 4pm today.

A spokesman from the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee Secretary said the number was in comparison to 2,640 evacuees from 727 families as of noon.

"All the victims are housed at eight relief centres with 1,629 people in Samarahan, five (564 people) in Serian and three (189) in Mukah,” he said in a statement here.

He said four relief centres, namely three in Kuching and one in Bintulu had been closed.

The four relief centres in Kuching are Ar Rahman Surau, Kampung Sungai Batu; Darul Muttaqin Mosque, Kampung Buntal and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tabuan as well as the Bintulu Civic Centre, he added. — Bernama
