KUCHING, Feb 5 — More people were evacuated by noon as the floods worsened in the affected areas of Sarawak.
As at noon, 2,640 people from 727 families had been moved to 20 relief centres, up from the 2,320 in the morning, according to a spokesman of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee Secretariat.
He said the number of evacuees rose in Samarahan and Bintulu while that in Kuching, Serian and Mukah remained unchanged.
"In Samarahan, the number of evacuees increased to 1,471 from 1,154 in the morning. In Bintulu, the number went up by three people to 180.
"In Kuching, the number of evacuees remained unchanged at 240; in Serian, 562, and in Mukah, 187,” he said in a statement. — Bernama
