IPOH, Jan 29 — Luxury car owners in Ipoh are in distress with the rise of victims having their vehicles splashed with acid and paint.

At least, 10 luxury cars were believed to be vandalised in the area around Greentown, Jalan Kuala Kangsar, Pengkalan and Ipoh Garden here, since November.

The cars were believed to be splashed with acid, which then caused the paint to peel off.

The pictures of the affected cars had also gone viral on social media, creating anxiety among netizen.

While some victims believe it could be the work of some paint business operators, the others are still puzzled.

Victim Jason Cheng, 34, who bought his KIA Sportage GT Line four months ago was shocked to see the car had been vandalised.

"The incident happened on Sunday at around 11.30am. I came out of my house and realised that something was on the car.

"When I look closer, only then I knew my car was splashed with acid. The paint has peeled off,” he told reporters at a press conference in Ipoh Barat Barisan Nasional Public Service and Complaints Centre here.

Cheng said only the passenger side of the car were affected as the left side of the car was facing the road.

"I believe someone would have splashed the acid while moving. The acid stains were scattered,” he said, adding it would cost him RM1,100 to repaint the car.

Cheng said he took the picture of his car and posted about the incident on the internet.

"I was surprised as I wasn't the only victim. Even my friend's friend's car was also hit by acid,” he said.

Cheng, who owns a T-shirt printing company, said that he is yet to make a police report of the incident.

"I don't know on what basis I can make a report. I don't have any problem with my neighbours or any debt issues nor enemies.

"What I can think of is maybe someone would have done it for paint business as the incident happened in various places around Ipoh,” he said.

Another victim by the name Razali Hamzah in Facebook, posted that his BMW which was parked outside his house in Taman Pengkalan Jaya was also splashed with acid last week.

Meanwhile, Ipoh Barat Barisan Nasional Public Service and Complaints Centre chief Mohd Rawi Abdullah said that he had received about 10 complaints of such incidents since Nov last year.

"Not all cases involve acid attacks, some were splashed with paint. But the acid attacks are the new cases.

"Public should park their car inside their house or at a sheltered place to avoid such incident from happening,” he said.

He also urges the police to take immediate action as not only the cars are at risk, but also the life of the public.

"Something has to be done promptly, we never know someone would be in the car when the attacks happen and if the window is open, the person will also be hit by the acid,” he explained.

Meanwhile, District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Ali Tamby confirmed that police had received two reports over the incidents.

"We are monitoring and gathering information about the case. So far, the victims have no clue about the incident,” he told reporters via WhatsApp.
