KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 — Three suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing at least RM8 million in foreign currency on Friday.

City police chief Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the trio aged 33 to 43 were detained around the city on Sunday.

"The suspects were in charge of a supply run to distribute 85 million Thai Bahts (RM8.33 million) from their headquarters to several money changers in the city,” he said.

Mazlan said the distribution headquarters realised the notes failed to arrive at their designated location and subsequently lodged a police report last Friday.

He said it was still too early to determine the motive behind the heist and police are investigating all angles including possible involvement from the outside.

According to The Star newspaper today, an industry source revealed that a worker with a distribution agency allegedly made off with the notes meant for several money changers in the city.
