KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a third suspect in its investigation on alleged corrupt dealings over the Penang undersea tunnel project.

The suspect, a 50 year-old senior female consultant engineer, was involved in the project’s research works, and was detained when she arrived at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, at 6.10 pm today.

A source familiar with the investigation said that that the suspect is believed to have been involved in issuing fake claims to the Penang government with regards to the feasibility study of three main roads and a tunnel in Penang valued at RM305 million.

The source said that MACC is also on the prowl for others who are involved in faking the documents.

MACC’s Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Azam Baki confirmed that arrest of the latest suspect, but refused to divulge further information.

A total of three individuals have been arrested so far in connection to the ongoing investigation.

Previously, a chairman and a deputy chairman from two different companies were remanded for 10 days beginning January 10 to facilitate investigations into the RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel project.

The two have since been released on a RM200,000 bail last Saturday.
