Police: Security to be ramped up at Thaipusam locations nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — Security will be ramped at all locations nationwide where Thaipusam will be celebrated to ensure that no untoward incidents occur to disrupt the festival.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun in a statement today said, visitors were asked to give their full cooperation to the authorities to ensure the celebration on Jan 31 takes place smoothly without any violation of laws and regulations.

Among the locations Thaipusam will be celebrated are Batu Caves, near here; Kuala Selangor, in Selangor; Penang; Sungai Petani, Kedah and Ipoh, Perak.

He said people were urged to immediately report to the police if there was any information relating to incidents that could affect the safety of visitors during the celebration. — Bernama
