KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 — PAS does not need the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to filter its candidates for the upcoming 14th general elections, the party’s deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said today.

He asserted that the Islamist party’s Syura Council has a better, more holistic process, Malay website Sinar Online reported.

"MACC only filters based on corruption, Syura looks at aspects like Shariah, morale, daily practices and their families. Therefore we don’t need to surrender to MACC or others,” he was quoted as saying in Temerloh, Pahang.

PAS’ Syura Council is its highest decision-making authority that forms the party’s policies. It consists of 17 members with academic Islamic religious knowledge and is led by a spiritual adviser.

The report also quoted Tuan Ibrahim saying PAS will allocate several seats to its Supporters Congress, known in Malay as DHPP — its non-Muslim wing — but did not state the number.

"Almost every state has a DHPP candidate with the exception of Kelantan and Terengganu because of its racial composition,” he was quoted saying.
