Tuition teacher faces two cheating charges

KUANTAN, Jan 16 — A tuition teacher claimed trial at two magistrate’s court here today to two cheating charges related to the application of driving licences.

In the first case, Mohd Nortarmizi Misrun, 31, allegedly induced Muhammad Asyraf Nazairi, 19, into handing him RM170 by misleading the victim to believe that he could secure a B2 motorcycle licence and a D car driving licence for him.

He is accused of committing the offence at Maktab Adabi, Batu 3 here between Nov 1 and Nov 30.

Magistrate Nurunaim Abdullah set RM3,500 as bail with one surety and Jan 29 for mention.

Earlier, counsel Nurul Syafiqa Syeba Atan mitigated for a bail sum lower than the RM5,000 proposed by the prosecution, telling the court that the accused earned only RM1,200 per month and had to support his parents as well as 21-year-old sibling who was still at university.

In the second case, Mohd Nortarmizi allegedly cheated Muhammad Jafni Daniel Jailani, 21, of RM100 at the same place and time.

Magistrate Syarifah Nursyuhada set RM4,000 as bail with one surety and Jan 29 for mention.

Both charges are framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 10 years imprisonment and whipping and liable to a fine on conviction.

In both cases, the prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Shahrizzat Amadan. — Bernama
