Improved weather condition in eastern Johor reported

JOHOR BARU, Jan 15 — Seven temporary flood evacuation centres have been closed in Mersing following improved weather condition here.

State Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said only one temporary flood evacuation centre in Mersing is still operational as off 2pm today.

"The centre in Sekolah Kebangsaan Labong still shelters 154 people from 39 families.

"Since yesterday there has been an improvement in weather throughout Johor and we hope this will continue,” he said.

There are still six temporary flood evacuation centres still operating in Segamat and Kota Tinggi with a total of 135 victims from 29 families.

Earlier this morning, it was reported that Johor had a total of 13 temporary flood evacuation centres open where a total of 1,360 people from 371 families were sheltered.

The affected areas in Segamat are Kampung Seberang Batu Badak, Kampung Pogoh Tengah and Kampung Tekam while in Mersing district, Kampung Orang Asli Labong was among the affected area.
