GEORGE TOWN, Jan 12 — Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Maimunah Sharif was listed in the Malaysia Book of Records last month for being the first Asian to be appointed executive director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme.

"I was given the certificate from Malaysia Book of Records also for being the first woman to be appointed to the position, not only the first in Malaysia,” she said at a press conference in Komtar today.

Maimunah also announced that MBPP has met with the criteria for the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (ACTC) 2017.

"MBPP will be representing Malaysia at the Asean level in Chiang Mai on January 26 and hopefully we will be successful in this,” she said.

She said MBPP was chosen because the local council had fulfilled the criteria set for the ACTC.

"By fulfilling all the criteria, it shows that we are moving towards international standards in terms of cleanliness and the cleanliness of our tourist spots here,” she said.
