TAIPING, Jan 11 — A 44-year-old network engineer from South Korea died when the Perodua MyVi he was driving rear ended into a stationary lorry at KM226.1 (North-bound) of the North South Expressway near here today.

Emergency response teams pronounced Kim Eun-koo dead at the scene shortly after their arrival following the 7am accident.

Police said the victim succumbed to head injuries.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Taib said the lorry’s 23-year-old lorry driver was detained for questioning.

"The lorry, which was laden with furniture, had been parked on  the road shoulder approaching the Bukit Gantang rest area,” he said.

Kim’s body was later removed from the wreckage and sent to the Taiping Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem to facilitate investigations under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

South Korean Kim Eun-koo was pronounced dead at the scene following the 7am incident near Taiping January 11, 2018.
