TNB substation accident: Construction worker’s body recovered

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 — After 12 hours of clearing rubble and debris from the site of the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation accident, rescue workers finally recovered the body of the Bangladeshi construction worker killed in the incident.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Director Khirudin Drahman said the body was removed from the crumbled substation construction site along Jalan Cochrane at 5.23am and then taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a post mortem.

In yesterday's accident, the man who was in his 20s died in the spot when the incomplete cement flooring below him gave way at the TNB substation, located next to the Cochrane Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station. 

He was buried under tonnes of construction scaffolding, wet cement, and metal reinforcement beams in the 5.30pm incident.
