IPOH, Jan 9 — Two Nigerian university students and a local woman were charged at the Magistrates' Court here today with cheating a man out of RM62,034.

Eze Chimezie Kingsley, 30, Anayo Apakabi, 28, and Mazni Marzuki, 46, are accused of cheating Law Ah Fook by making him believe that he would receive a parcel in exchange for depositing RM62,034 into a bank account.

For this offense they were charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating which was read together with Section 34 of the same Act.

If convicted they could face a prison term of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine.

Meanwhile, Eze and Anayo were also charged for overstaying in the country after their student pass expired on December 12, 2017 and June, 3, 2017 respectively.

If convicted, they could be fined not less than RM10,000 or jailed for not more than five years or both.

Eze, Anayo and Mazni pleaded not guilty to all the charges read in front of Magistrate Nurul Hafizah Mohammad Pauzi. 

Mazni was granted bail of RM4,000 with one surety but Eze and Anayo were not granted bail.

Mazni was represented by J. Matthews and Eze and Anayo was represented by Miza Hiryani Zakaria.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Qistina Qamar L. Abrar appeared for the prosecution.

The case has been fixed for mention on February 12.
