KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 ― Local actor Iqram Dinzly has apologised publicly for calling Prophet Muhammad "Che Mat” on TV, saying it was just a slip of the tongue.
In his public apology, Iqram, 36, said he had no intention of insulting or making fun of the Prophet in a recent television programme.
"Before going ‘live’ on Melodi, I faced many problems, among them, a tyre puncture and inability to sleep well,” he was quoted saying by local daily Sinar Harian.
"So when going ‘live’, I was kelam-kabut, and said 'Che Mat' but I quickly corrected it to Prophet Muhammad pbuh,” he added.
Iqram said it was "up to everyone” on whether they wanted to accept his apology.
The apology was made through a ‘live’ broadcast yesterday over Sinar Harian's Facebook account.
Iqram's actions on the TV3 programme on January 7 had been criticised by many, including Perak mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria.
The Dunia Baru actor is often in the spotlight because of his antics ― dancing, singing and even chiding his followers ― on Instagram.
