CYBERJAYA, Jan 9 — Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan today lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over false allegations made on a Facebook account claiming that he was in misappropriation of funds and abuse of power.

He described those making and spreading the allegations relating to the construction of 39 National Type Tamil Schools and the Special Stimulus Package 2012 as irresponsible

”This is an attempt to tarnish my name and the ministry and I hope MCMC will take legal action immediately,” he told reporters after lodging the report at the MCMC headquarters here today.

Kamalanathan, accompanied by two of his officers arrived at the MCMC building at about 4.20pm and submitted the report to MCMC Network Security and Enforcement Sector chief Zulkarnain Mohd Yasin.

The Facebook page claimed that Kamalanathan had awarded a contract for the projects to a company belonging to a relative on his mother's side which then was appointed as a consultant and had been paid RM20 million.

According to him, the company was appointed by the Finance Ministry on Feb 16, 2013 whereas he was appointed Deputy Education Minister on May 16, 2013, three months after the company's appointment.

Kamalanathan also stressed that he had no blood ties with the individuals concerned and would also lodge a police report on the matter. — Bernama
