Police nab 46 for illegal gambling in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 — Police have arrested 46 people on suspicion of illegal gambling yesterday.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said police raided a three-storey shop lot along Jalan Serkut in Taman Pertama, Cheras following a tip-off during an Ops Dadu operation aimed at weeding out illegal gambling yesterday.

Abdul Ghani said a total of five organisers, 29 players and 12 spectators were detained after they were found to have been playing mahjong at the shop lot turned gambling house.  

He said all of those picked up were aged between 55 and 90 while a urine test conducted on all the suspects returned negative.

Several mahjong tables and mahjong tiles were seized along with RM25,741 at the premises.
