KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 — Taxi drivers in Sarawak’s capital mounted a strike today in protest of Uber and Grab which were servicing travellers to and from the Kuching International Airport.
Airport senior manager Mohd Nadzim Hashimin said the strike until 6pm today, while not held at the airport, is inconveniencing airport passengers.
"We have been in communication with the local authorities, the airport taxi operator and the association on this matter as it presents great inconvenience to our passengers.
"The association has informed us that taxi service will resume at 6pm today,” he said in a statement.
He advised passengers to make alternative land transport arrangement in travelling to and from the airport.
"Passengers at the airport can request for assistance from staff on the ground if they require information on alternative transportation,” he said.
Mohd Nadzim added that the airport operations and airline schedules were not affected by the strike.
