Number of flood evacuees near 12,000 in Johor, Terengganu, Pahang, Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 — A total of 11,991 flood victims have been recorded by the National Disaster Management Agency’s (Nadma) disaster control centres in Johor, Terengganu, Pahang and Sabah as of 8pm.

According to a statement by Nadma, all the states recorded an increase in the number of victims over the past three days.

"There are 3,285 families involved, and they are now being housed at 77 relief centres,” the statement said.

However, the  agency said that the severe weather warnings and alerts have been terminated in all four states.

Pahang remained the worst hit state with the number of fllod evacuees increasing to 9,810 who are being sheltered at 55 flood relief centres as compared to 8,800 evacuees in the afternoon.

A teenager who fell into knee-deep flood waters at Kampung Tiram in Kuantan after he was believed to have suffered a seizure attack, is the second casualty related to floods in Pahang this year.

Besides Kuantan, the other districts hit in the state are Rompin, Pekan, Jerantut,  Lipis and Bera.

As for TERENGGANU,  the state saw 1,364 people from 340 families in FRCs as compared to 1,001 people from 264 families in the afternoon.

Kemaman and Dungun are the districts hit.

Meanwhile, Membakut in SABAH saw the number of evacuees rise to 590 people from 207 families as compared to 566 people from 196 families earlier.

However, in JOHOR , the situation took a turn for the better with the number of evacuees dropping to  254 as compared to 395 earlier.

The districts that have been hit are Mersing and Kluang. — Bernama
