KUALA LUMPUR — Police are tracking down an individual who allegedly molested a passenger at an escalator at the Masjid Jamek LRT station on Thursday.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharudin Abdullah said the suspect had approached a 20-year-old polytechnic student from behind and rubbed his genitals on her before escaping through the crowd.

"We have been identified him through close-circuit television recordings provided by the rail management and obtained a picture of the alleged perpetrator snapped by the victim’s friend,” he said.

Shaharudin said the suspect was still at large with no arrests made and the case was being investigated by the Contingent Headquarter’s Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Unit (D11).

A police report was lodged by the victim several hours after the incident took place at 7.50pm.

On Friday, Dhabitah Zainal on her Twitter handler @dhabitahzainal said her friend was sexually assaulted in the LRT from Pasar Seni to Masjid Jamek.

"A man pulled his penis out of his pants and rubbed it against her bum. She screamed for help.”

"Bystanders laughed. @MyRapidKL’s staff didn’t help and let the perpetrator walk away. TWICE,” she said.

In response, Rapid KL tweeted back, saying that it was untrue that the alleged suspect was apprehended and handed over to the police.

"We take such criminal acts very seriously and will take action immediately. Pls report such incident ASAP. TQ. @prasaranaCEO @CEOrapidrail,” it said.
