KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 —  Malaysia is set to be in the "Premier League” and not be in the  bottom leagues if all that is planned under National Transformation  2050 (TN50) vision are successfully implemented, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin using football analogy.

The Umno Youth chief said at the moment, even though Malaysia was an exemplary nation to other developing countries such as those in the Asean  region and in Africa, it was not impossible that this situation could change if TN50 is drawn up and implemented well.

"Before this, we were only a country chasing after the developed nations which were ahead in terms of technology, social development, education and other areas. So in 2050, we will not be chasing them anymore, but the opposite will happen.

"We will be their objective (to follow). That is our nation in the future, the benchmark for other nations not to be in the second division but also in the Premier League just like us. That is the objective of TN50,” he said in the programme ‘Bicara Tokoh Muda’ at the National Undergraduates Leadership Conference (Pemanas) here yesterday.

He said the government must think of what needs to be done in the next 30 years in order to continue being competitive and developed just like other first world nations. — Bernama
