IPOH Nov 30 — Over 400 people were forced to leave their homes after water levels rose across two southern districts in Perak.

The evacuees were from 114 families in Manjung and Mua’llim that experience heavy rain yesterday.

Seven relocation centres were opened across the two districts as floodwaters reached over  half a metre in some areas.

Perak Civil Defence Force director Col (PA) Mohd Noor Hassan Ashari Sulaiman said most evacuees were housed at the Kampung Sungai Batu community hall.

"There are 128 people from 26 families staying at the centre now,” he said in a statement earlier today.

"Altogether, there are four centres in Manjung and three in Muallim.”

A spokesman for the state Welfare Department said it was already working to register the evacuees in the affected areas.
