Najib says aid will be extended to flood victims in Kelantan

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 ― Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government will ensure that aid will be extended to victims whose houses in Kelantan have been submerged in floodwaters over the last few days.

Najib said he was now monitoring the situation to see which areas required people to be evacuated to flood relief centres.

"I hope everyone will be careful and will cooperate with the authorities. The government will make sure aid is given to those in need,” said Najib on his Facebook page last night.

As at 9pm tonight, the number of flood victims in Kelantan increased to 1,078 as compared with 834 at 5pm this evening.

The victims are seeking shelter at 23 relief centres in seven districts namely Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, Machang and Bachok.

Meanwhile, according to the Drainage and Irrigation Department portal infobanjir.water.gov.my, water level at the Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas has exceeded the danger level and risen to 9.68 metres from 9.52 metres at 5pm yesterday. ― Reuters
