KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 — DAP federal lawmaker Gobind Singh Deo has filed a motion calling for a review of the narrowly-passed Supply Bill at the committee stage last Monday.

He cried foul play over the 52-51 vote margin in the Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s favour for the portion of the Bill under Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, saying the Dewan Rakyat Speaker had missed the vote of a fellow Opposition MP but counted those from the ruling coalition who walked in after the bell rang.

"I have put in a motion with other parliamentarians under Section 43 which gives us two days notice. So we still have time.

"The vote count announced cannot be different from what we submitted. That itself is enough for there to be a review and decision to be reconsidered,” Gobind told a news conference at Parliament today.

The Puchong MP who is also a lawyer said he filed the motion to the Speaker’s Office under Section 43 of Parliament’s Standing Order.

He urged Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia to review the decision and hold a re-count.

The DAP deputy chairman also urged Pandikar to take action on Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin whom he accused of influencing the vote count.

Gobind and several other Opposition MPs alleged that Hamzah personally oversaw BN’s final vote count at the Dewan Rakyat secretary’s table.

"The minister has to referred to the Parliament committee because he cannot do that,” he stressed.

The Supply Bill was approved with 52 MPs in favour and 51 against while two from PAS abstained from voting last Monday.

The Opposition lawmakers had kicked up a fuss on the voting procedure and count, claiming the numbers were amended to include the "ayes” from BN MPs who entered the House after the final tally was submitted to the Parliament administration.
