KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 — Malaysians will be able to observe the Geminids meteor shower which is expected to peak on the night of Dec 13 till early morning hours of Dec 14.

National Planetarium Principal Assistant director Mohd Zamri Shah Mastor said two meteors were expected to appear in the sky every single minute, bringing the total up to 120 meteors to be visible to the naked eye within an hour during the period.

"This phenomenon will be clearly seen from dark locations such as interior areas, edge of the forest or beaches where city and artificial lights do not impede your viewing.

"Fraser’s Hill and Teluk Kemang in Port Dickson, for example, are good locations for the public to view this phenomenon,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

The Geminids are associated with an asteroid, 3200 Phaethon, that may have undergone a collision with another object in the distant past to produce the stream of particles that Earth runs into, hence creating the meteor shower.
