KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 — The Transport Ministry is studying the viability to include a new device in the Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras to capture road users using mobile phones when driving.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said officers from his ministry will be working with the Road and Transport Department to apply the technology for the sole purpose of reducing accidents and deaths.

"The ministry will look into improving the AES cameras to track drivers using handphones while driving,” he was quoted as saying in Mingguan Malaysia.

Abdul Aziz claimed road users are currently brave enough to use their phones while driving because they know current circumstances would not be able to detect this action.

"Which is why we need to improve and modernise available enforcement methods, including the AES cameras to track wrongdoers,” he was quoted as saying.

Abdul Aziz, in the news report, also advised road users to abide the law and to concentrate on the road when driving.
