KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — Malaysia’s 6.2 per cent growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of this year makes it among the fastest growing economies in Asia, a minister said today.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the country’s GDP growth has overtaken Singapore, Indonesia and even higher than certain developed countries like the United States.

"Our GDP growth this quarter is also among the fastest in the Asian region, faster than Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea and Taiwan.

"It’s also faster than the developed economies such as the USA, the European Union and the United Kingdom,” he said in a statement today.

The Kota Belud MP added that government initiatives including pumping RM46 billion into the economy, taking care of private sectors and building mega-projects has paid off.

Abdul Rahman stressed that the Malaysian economy was in the right path and this was proof by validation from several international rating agencies.

"We are indeed on the right track and this has been validated by the global agencies such as the IMF, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank which have revised our GDP growth more than two times this year,” he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced today that Malaysia has recorded a 6.2 per cent growth in GDP in the third quarter of this year, an achievement that proves that the country’s economic management is on track.
