KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — Former diplomat Datuk Yeop Adlan Che Rose announced he is joining DAP today, citing dissatisfaction with ruling coalition Barisan Nasional.

In a press conference at the DAP headquarters here, Yeop who had previously been involved with opposition parties PAS and PKR, said his move today was aimed "to make things right” with his remaining life.

"And only with DAP this time around. Do it right,” he told reporters.

Yeop, who had not yet renounced his PAS membership, said he will be tendering his letter to leave the Islamist party "immediately”.

In 2006, Yeop was also temporarily seconded to PKR while serving as an active PAS member, and elected to PKR’s Supreme Council member. In 2008, the secondment ended, and Yeop became an ordinary member of the Islamist party.

Yeop admitted he was not confident with PKR as well, owing to the party internal problems.

"PKR I mean, the party is in shambles. You know [Datuk Seri] Anwar Ibrahim was incarcerated, [so it’s] difficult to move forward, and they are still having problems. Even now, he’s still in jail. How to move?” he said, referring to the PKR de facto leader.

Yeop enjoyed a distinguished career as a diplomat, having served in Singapore, Egypt, United Kingdom, and Spain before resigning from civil service in 1995.

Yeop was also the Datuk Pengelola Bijaya Diraja of the National Palace, in 1989.

His father, Che Rose Abdullah was the DAP candidate for Alor Pongsu, in the first by-election after the 1974 general elections.

In the press conference today, Yeop said he has lost hope in Umno for allegedly only benefiting cronies despite claiming to champion Malay welfare and rights.

"They have proven it, what more proof do you want? If anything, they have provided proof to show [Umno] couldn’t do things for 60 years, and here you are. DAP has shown what they can do in Penang in only two terms,” he added.
