KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 ― Malaysians whose passports were damaged during the recent floods that devastated Penang can replace them for free at the state Immigration offices.

The offer is valid before December 31, The Star reported on its website today.

"Applicants who lost their passports need to lodge a police report before they make applications at the Immigration offices.

"Those with damaged passports need to bring the passports and evidence too,” Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali was quoted telling a news conference in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

High winds and heavy continuous rains lashed Penang for 15 hours straight from 2pm November 3, flooding 80 per cent of the island state, swelling rivers, uprooting trees as well as causing landslips and power outages in several areas.

Seven people died in the Penang floods.

Flood waters have mostly receded, leaving behind mud, slime and damaged homes and properties for a colossal clean-up.
