KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 ― The Selangor state government said today it is planning to use electric cars for its fleet, in order to reduce its carbon footprint.

However, state executive councillor in charge of tourism, environment, green technology and consumer affairs Elizabeth Wong was reported saying there is no schedule for the replacement as yet.

"For now, it is not [yet] time to acquire new official cars,” said Wong as quoted by Malaysiakini in the state legislative assembly.

This comes as Wong said Selangor will continue its green technology action plan between 2016 and 2018, which also included installing charging stations for electric cars.

Malaysiakini reported that the Selangor government had last changed its fleet in 2008, procuring Japanese marque Toyota Camry for its 10 state exco members.

The new fleet had replaced local Proton Perdana, whose maintenance costs had ballooned.
