Number of Penang flood victims rises to 4,454

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 8 — Half an hour of heavy rain from 10am today saw the number of flood evacuees at the relief centres rising to 4,454 as at 2.30pm from 3,482 in the morning.

A police flood operations room spokesman said the additional evacuees were from the Lahar Yooi area and Padang Menora in Tasek Gelugor.

He said 2,766 evacuees from 650 families were housed at relief centres in the Seberang Perai Utara district and another 1,598 from 465 families at the centres in Seberang Perai Tengah.

He added that 30 relief centres remained open, while the Lahar Yooi-Padang Menora road was still closed to traffic due to the floodwaters. — Bernama
