KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — Public Bank Bhd and Public Islamic Bank Bhd have activated its Relief Assistance Programme for customers and employees affected by the current flood situation in several states in Malaysia.

In a statement today, the group said it offered up to six months moratorium on monthly instalment payments for loans and financing for those affected by the floods, effective November 2017.

Public Bank Managing Director, Tan Sri Tay Ah Lek said the move was made in the hopes of alleviating their hardship.

The group said the flood moratorium was applicable to house financing, hire purchase, credit cards and other loans and financing facilities.

Additionally, the bank would also accommodate requests by affected customers to restructure their loans and financing payments, and reschedule their monthly repayments to assist in their cash flow situation on a case-to-case basis.

It would also waive charges for affected customers seeking replacement for their automated teller machine (ATM) cards, passbooks, cheque books or any banking related documents, which have been destroyed or lost in the floods.

On another note, the bank said it would also collaborate with Lonpac Insurance Bhd under its Fast-Track Claim Settlement Programme to facilitate and expedite claims made by the affected customers on losses covered by their respective insurance policies underwritten by Lonpac.

It will also be providing a special cash relief assistance for the affected staff and their families, and granting them compassionate leave to enable them to attend to their domestic affairs. — Bernama
