KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 ― Despite being booted out of DAP four years ago, Jenice Lee has the right to attend and participate in the internal election next month, party national organising secretary Anthony Loke said today.

Lee had earlier today questioned an invitation to attend a special congress for the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) re-election as a delegate when she was no longer listed as a member.

"If she has received the notice of special congress, that means she can attend, it’s as simple as that,” Loke told Malay Mail Online when contacted.

He explained that the CEC re-election is being conducted using the 2012 delegates list that had Lee in it as a member then.

Lee who was elected Teratai assemblyman in Election 2008, served only one term and was sacked from the DAP in April 2013 after filing her nomination to defend her seat as an independent candidate in the general elections of that year.

The DAP will be holding a special congress on November 12 to re-elect its CEC, potentially ending the party’s five-year ordeal with the Registrar of Societies (RoS), which refused to recognise the party’s 2012 elections after the party admitted an error in the tabulation of votes.

The party had a special congress to re-elect its CEC members in 2013, but that too was not recognised by RoS, which later led to a court battle between the two.

The upcoming special congress is being conducted with the presence of an independent audit firm which was approved by the RoS.
