Two men injured in shooting at coffee shop near Tangkak

JOHOR BARU, Oct 20 — Two men were injured after getting shot while having a drink with several friends at a coffee shop in Pekan Bukit Gambir near Tangkak early today.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the incident at about 4 am was believed to be carried out by an unidentified suspect wearing a full face helmet and armed with a semi-automatic pistol.

"The suspect fired seven shots at close range in the direction of the victim’s group.

"After the incident, the suspect fled on a motorcycle,” he said in a statement here today. 

Mohd Khalil said both victims in their 30’s were sent to Muar and Melaka hospitals for treatment.

They were reported to be in stable condition, said Mohd Khalil.

The motive of the incident was being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 3(10 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties)  Act 1971, he said.
