TAWAU, July 6 — Sabah police are committed to curbing issues related to the production and usage of homemade weapons like ‘bakakuk’ and 'ginsuk’ shotguns in the state.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said individuals found to be in possession of such weapons would be arrested and the weapons, seized.

"As at June this year, the police have made 69 arrests related to illegal possession of firearms and 37 ‘bakakuk’ shotguns have been seized in the state during the period compared to nine in the corresponding period last year.

"Shop owners selling bullets for these homemade guns will also be subjected to stern measures," he told reporters here today.

In another development, Ramli said 68 people had been arrested under section 39 (b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act between January and June this year compared to 41 people arrested within the same period last year.

On theft cases, he said Sabah police were also following up on reported cases vigorously to clear the cases immediately and had so far managed to solve 64 per cent of the crime. — Bernama
