KUCHING, July 4 — Hoping to save on taxpayers’ money, Lina Soo offered the Sarawak government today full access to her personal collection of declassified colonial documents on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 for free.

The Sarawak State Reform Party (STAR) president who has been among the advocates of autonomy for Sarawak also volunteered to meet the state legal team and help them go through the documents sourced from the British Archives as well as prepare a brief before their mission to London.

She said the government can save on both time and public funds with her help instead of repeating the work undertaken by private initiatives since 2011.

"If after studying the documents, the legal team discovers there are gaps in their knowledge requiring to be filled, then a trip to look into the British National archives would be appropriate.”

Soo said when asked to respond to the state government’s decision to send a legal team to London later this month.

Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Openg, who announced the decision, had said that the team would research and study any references related to the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Soo urged the legal team to collaborate with interested parties and private citizens who have already done their research.

"Sarawak’s interests must be placed over and above party politics,” she said.

On the trip to London, she said one or two weeks is sufficient to uncover the truth regarding Sarawak’s rights and constitutional position in the formation of Malaysia.

She said the task would require an experienced team to undertake several months of serious full-time research.

"A short visit would be just a legal holiday for the team whose expenses would be paid for by tax payers,” she said.
