KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — The Perak Road Transport Department is anticipating intense interest and bidding for the "AKU 8055” registration number that is visually similar to the Malay phrase "AKU BOSS (I am the boss)”.

The department is also expecting a general increase in demand for the AKU series that was opened for bidding today. Interest has reportedly come from celebrities, sports stars and cosmetics tycoons.

"RTD received many queries from many regarding the AKU 8055 number plate since last year, as it is similar to the words AKU BOSS,” Perak RTD director Mohd Zawawi Zakaria told Malay daily Kosmo!

"The official owner of AKU 8055 will be known after the bidding period closes at 12pm, on July 18,” Mohd Zawawi added.

"AKK 1” is the record holder for the most paid for a Perak registration number, after it was sold at RM288,000 last year.

According to a separate report by national news agency Bernama, the numbers are divided into three categories: Main Value Numbers from 1 to 10; Attractive Numbers that include 2222, 4444, 11, 12 and 14; and Popular Numbers such as 9090, 7070, 2266 and 4400.

Minimum bids for the Main Value Numbers are RM10,000, Attractive Numbers (RM2,000) and Popular Numbers (RM300).

Bernama also reported that cosmetics business tycoon Datuk Seri Dr Hasmiza Othman or Dr Vida confirmed that she will send a representative to bid on her behalf.
