KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Want a new tudung or Muslim headscarf? You can now buy it quickly and easily from a vending machine.

Initiate Global Resources Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Roszie Amir said the company rolled out the vending machine concept to sell its Querenda brand of tudung following market research that showed tudung sellers frequently face manpower shortage.

As a pilot project, the company installed its first Querenda Hijab On The Go vending machine at The Mines mall in Selangor.

"We chose that location because it is strategic, near to offices and university to test the market. Alhamdulillah, the response has been encouraging until it went viral on social media,” she was quoted saying by local daily Sinar Harian.

She said the vending machine employs Japanese technology with tutorials on wearing the tudung on its LCD screen, adding that a single machine can accommodate 150 pieces of the headscarves.

The headscarf which can be bought by cash, credit card, debit card or Touch ‘n Go card also comes in a box that is ideal for gifting, she said.

Roszie said the company aims to have 20 vendors using its vending machine this year, with the business package priced at RM36,000 to cover the product costs and the use of the Querenda brand.
