KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 ― Property developer Mah Sing Group’s moving video that called its Muslim migrant workers "unsung heroes” for working throughout Ramadan has reached more than 1.5 million views.
The video shared the poignant stories of some of the workers labouring away from their families; they were then feted at a "buka puasa” (breaking of fast) open house thrown by the company for 600 Muslim construction workers of the Southville City project at KL South on June 9.
"Construction workers are truly the unsung heroes of the industry,” Mah Sing Group managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum said in a statement today.
"Many of them are Muslims and they work throughout the month of Ramadan to build our homes. This video shares some of their stories and the hardships they face. We wanted to show our appreciation to them by breaking fast together as well as thank them for all the hard work they have done for us,” he added.
Leong gave a total of RM30,000, or RM50 "duit raya” to each construction worker, according to the statement.
"This is a small token from us. We hope this can bring more joy to their Hari Raya celebrations away from home,” he said.
