MELAKA, June 27 ― The number of flood evacuees in Melaka dropped to 149 this morning from 200 last night.
The centres are the Bukit Tambun, Bukit Balai and Kampung Pulau community halls in Alor Gajah and Sekolah Kebangsaan Tehel in Jasin, he added.
"The floods were caused by the overflow of Sungai Durian Tunggal, Sungai Melaka and Sungai Tehel following heavy rain on Monday night,” he said in a statement.
Effendy, who is also the head of the Melaka Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, said 18 people from three families were at the Bukit Tambun relief centre, 40 from six families at the Bukit Balai centre and 15 from five families at the Kampung Pulau centre in Alor Gajah. Seventy-six evacuees from 16 families were at the SK Tehel in Jasin, he added.
He said the weather was improving and the rain was easing off. ― Bernama
